Project Description

I created an instructional unit over how to login and navigate Schoolweb. Schoolweb is our LMS and is run on the Moodle software. My instructional unit is intended for new teachers to the school and helps them become familiar with Schoolweb and its functionality. The instructional unit was developed during the summer of 2012 and had several team members give feedback on the instructional unit.

Responsibilities Met

This project demonstrates proficiencies in the following AECT standards: Standard 1 – Design, Standard 2 – Development, Standard 3 – Utilization, Standard 4 – Management, and Standard 5 – Evaluation. The chart below illustrates the performances that fulfill the AECT standards. The assessment is also aligned to M.Ed. program standards (EDTC Professional Responsibilities).

EDTC Professional Responsibilities

Responsibility #2: Design. The candidate will design instruction (or human performance strategies) to meet the needs of learners. Design documents and projects must show evidence of analysis of problem situation, awareness of unique characteristics of intended audience and implications for instruction, selection and implementation instructional strategies consistent with analysis of the learning situation and intended learners, selection and justification of appropriate medias, and evidence of both formative and summative evaluation strategies.

Performance indicators:

Justification

2.1 Demonstrates ability to perform analysis and documentation of instructional need or opportunity resulting in student-centered, performance based instructional objectives based upon, and appropriate for, a specific audience.

2.2 Demonstrates ability to perform comprehensive task analysis of an instructional objective.

2.3 Demonstrates ability to select and integrate into instruction a variety of research-based instructional strategies.

New teachers to the school need training on how to work Schoolweb. I looked at what training was available to new teachers and saw that the school was not meeting the needs of new hires in this area.

I set instructional objects and followed these objects throughout the unit.

I used multiple strategies in my instructional unit. New hires answered questions, worked on example problems, and created their own Schoolweb page.

2.4 Demonstrates ability to develop and select appropriate assessment instruments.

2.5 Demonstrates ability to use formative evaluations for iterative assessments of components of the design process.

I used a questionnaire at the end of the training to assess the students.

Used a subject matter expert review, a one-on-one user review, and a small group evaluation for the instructional unit.

Responsibility #3: Development, Utilization and Management. The candidate will develop, utilize and manage a variety of media and instructional technologies to deliver instruction to students.

Performance indicators:

Justification

3.1 Demonstrates ability to develop instruction using a minimum of three different medias.

3.2 Applies research-based rationale for the selection and utilization of technologies for learning.

3.3 Demonstrates ability to manage projects and evaluate progress and improvement.

3.4 Uses the results of evaluation methods to revise and update instructional materials.

My instructional unit used videos, websites and questionnaires to address the new hires.

A step by step storyboard was created for the new hires to follow. The storyboard will hopefully be turned into a video in EDTC 6323. This was the most logical choice for the training because it walks the new teachers through all the steps.

I received feedback from my team mates on my instructional unit and implemented the changes they suggested. I am always looking to make my instructional unit better.

I updated my instructional unit when I received my feedback from my team and from the professor.

Responsibility #4: Evaluation. The candidate uses incisive and relevant assessment and evaluation techniques (e.g., product or project which uses formative and/or summative evaluations). Candidate demonstrates the ability to evaluate quality of instructional materials and instructional systems using appropriate methodologies. Candidate also demonstrates the ability to use formative and summative assessment methodologies to ascertain the effectiveness of instruction in meeting instructional goals.

Performance indicators:

Justification

4.1 Demonstrates ability to use formative evaluation strategies to evaluate the quality of instruction.

4.2 Demonstrates ability to use summative strategies to evaluate the quality of instruction. (Note: Summative evaluation goes beyond the scope of this course. If you continue to develop this project in EDTC 6323, you may include this performance indicator in your artifact report)

4.3 Demonstrates ability to select a variety of appropriate assessment instruments and use those instruments to assess effectiveness of instruction in meeting instructional objectives.

4.4 Documents results from formative evaluations and uses those results to revise instructional materials, and/or instructional development process.

My expert user, small group and one-on-one persons evaluated my project. I took what these individuals said about the project and made modifications.

I used a checklist and questions as an assessment tool for those assessing the instructional unit.

After all of the evaluations were complete I made the changes the evaluators came up with and submitted the final copy of the instructional unit. The results from the evaluators are located in the instructional unit.

Responsibility 5: Research. The candidate collects, evaluates, and synthesizes research from a variety of appropriate sources in order to support decision-making in design, development, implementation and evaluation of instructional systems.

Performance Indicators

5.2 Uses research in instructional technology to justify academic decisions in course work projects and professional work-related responsibilities.

5.3 Uses research to justify selections of instructional strategies

Justification

Researched how to use the technologies of this lesson.SchoolWeb is an older version of the Moodle LMS and I researched what the most used parts of the LMS were and created a training module over those parts. The selected lessons for the project were the most used by teachers at Marcus H. S.

Skyward was researched and how to teach each lesson. I settled on using instructional videos because the teachers I asked said they would rather have those. I watched several instructional videos on other sites to understand how to create an instructional video.e

Modifications Made

I have not made any modifications to this project since it was turned in. the only modifications I made were done during the class.
