Project Description

This E-Learning module will help students learn basic math skills used in a high school physics class. The

module will consist of four parts that cover significant figures, scientific notation, adding, subtracting,

multiplying and dividing (with correct sig figs), and dimensional analysis (metric system).

Responsibilities Met

This project demonstrates proficiencies in the following AECT standards: Standard 1 – Design, Standard 2 –

Development, Standard 3 – Utilization, Standard 4 – Management, and Standard 5 – Evaluation. The chart

below illustrates the performances that fulfill the AECT standards. The assessment is also aligned to M.Ed.

program standards (EDTC Professional Responsibilities).

EDTC Professional Responsibilities

Responsibility #2: Design. The candidate will design instruction (or human performance strategies) to meet the needs of learners. Design documents and projects must show evidence of analysis of problem situation, awareness of unique characteristics of intended audience and implications for instruction, selection and implementation instructional strategies consistent with analysis of the learning situation and intended learners, selection and justification of appropriate medias, and evidence of both formative and summative evaluation strategies.

Performance indicators:

Justification

2.1 Demonstrates ability to perform analysis and documentation of instructional need or opportunity resulting in student-centered, performance based instructional objectives based upon, and appropriate for, a specific audience.

2.2 Demonstrates ability to perform comprehensive task analysis of an instructional objective.

2.3 Demonstrates ability to select and integrate into instruction a variety of research-based instructional strategies.

Students in physics need to know certain math skills. Many students were showing up to the physics class unprepared to do physics problems due to lack of skills.

I set instructional objects and followed these objects throughout the unit.

I used multiple strategies in my instructional unit. New hires answered questions and worked example problems.

2.4 Demonstrates ability to develop and select appropriate assessment instruments.

2.5 Demonstrates ability to use formative evaluations for iterative assessments of components of the design process.

I used a test at the end of the lesson to assess the students.

Used a subject matter expert review, a one-on-one user review, and a small group evaluation for the instructional unit.

Responsibility #3: Development, Utilization and Management. The candidate will develop, utilize and manage a variety of media and instructional technologies to deliver instruction to students.

Performance indicators:

Justification

3.1 Demonstrates ability to develop instruction using a minimum of three different medias.

3.2 Applies research-based rationale for the selection and utilization of technologies for learning.

3.3 Demonstrates ability to manage projects and evaluate progress and improvement.

3.4 Uses the results of evaluation methods to revise and update instructional materials.

My instructional unit used videos, websites and questionnaires (problems) to address the students.

A step by step videos was created for the students to follow. This was the most logical choice for the training because it walks the students through all the steps.

I received feedback from my SME on my instructional unit and implemented the changes they suggested. I am always looking to make my instructional unit better.

I updated my instructional unit when I received my feedback from my SME and from the professor.

Responsibility #4: Evaluation. The candidate uses incisive and relevant assessment and evaluation techniques (e.g., product or project which uses formative and/or summative evaluations). Candidate demonstrates the ability to evaluate quality of instructional materials and instructional systems using appropriate methodologies. Candidate also demonstrates the ability to use formative and summative assessment methodologies to ascertain the effectiveness of instruction in meeting instructional goals.

Performance indicators:

Justification

4.1 Demonstrates ability to use summative strategies to evaluate the quality of instruction.

4.3 Demonstrates ability to select a variety of appropriate assessment instruments and use those instruments to assess effectiveness of instruction in meeting instructional objectives.

4.4 Documents results from formative evaluations and uses those results to revise instructional materials, and/or instructional development process.

I used online quizzes and practice problems as a summative assessment for this project.

I used a checklist and questions as an assessment tool for those assessing the instructional unit.

After all of the evaluations were complete I made the changes the evaluators came up with and submitted the final copy of the instructional unit. The results from the evaluators are located in the instructional unit.

Modifications Made

I would like to make a few modifications to this lesson before it is used as a real lesson. The lesson was

created in the EDTC Moodle environment and would have to be moved to a more open LMS. My school

district is using a form of Moodle called SchoolWeb and they are migrating to version 2.6 over the summer

and I have been testing this version for a couple of months now. I would like to use this version of SchoolWeb

to house the lesson because it allows for SCORM files to uploaded. I tried this with our old version to no avail

but the new version of SchoolWeb SCORMs very easily. The main reason I want to use SCORM files is that I would

like to create the lesson in Storyline by Articulate and create a more interactive lesson. I can add the video

files to Storyline and then create interactive content for the learner to do along the way. I would add an

avatar for the student to follow throughout the lesson along with quizzes and movable questions. I would

need to SCORM the lesson and upload it to SchoolWeb for the students to use. I would also add math

questions for the students to do in the lesson. I really like the interactivity of Storyline and I think it will allow

the students to feel more involved in the lesson.

I would also like for the students to create their own questions to add to a quiz or worksheet. I would like to add

a place where the students can create a few math skills questions for the other students to try either on the forum

or maybe they can create their own videos and post them to the SchoolWeb. These are a few of the changes

I would like to make to the lesson. I really liked the videos I made with all the examples worked out. Now I just

need to get the videos in a more interactive lesson so students can be more involved in the learning.
